1.2 million families still under water, 27 deaths

The flood situation of the country has improved. In the last 24 hours, 33 thousand 619 families have been freed from water-logged conditions. On Monday, the number of water-logged families was 12 lakh 38 thousand 48. On Tuesday it decreased to 12 lakh 7 thousand 429 families. So far, 27 people have died in the flood, and the number of affected people is 56 lakh 19 thousand 375.

Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e-Azam informed the reporters about the latest flood situation on Tuesday. He told reporters in his office in the Secretariat that India has opened 109 gates of Farakka barrage amid the ongoing severe floods in Bangladesh. However, as a result, no new area has been flooded so far. Water is receding in most areas. Areas that are newly flooded with running water are expected to recede quickly. It remains to be seen whether this is a political flood situation or not.

Regarding relief distribution, he said, army and other forces are reaching remote areas through helicopters. So far relief has reached all the remote upazilas. So far the number of flood affected districts is 11. Ten people died in Comilla, one in Feni, five in Chittagong, one in Khagrachari, five in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Laxmipur and three in Cox's Bazar. Besides, two people are missing in Moulvibazar.

The advisor said that a total of 3,886 shelters have been opened for the shelter of water-bound or affected people. A total of 5 lakh 9 thousand 728 people and 34 thousand 421 cattle have been sheltered in these shelters. A total of 620 medical teams are operational to provide medical care to the victims.

It was also informed in the briefing that more than Tk 5 crore 73 lakh cash collection was done in six days for flood victims in TSC of Dhaka University. Out of this more than 60 lakh rupees came through mobile banking.
