10 banks of the country are on the verge of bankruptcy


10 banks in the country have gone bankrupt due to fraud and looting. However, due to the condition of the banking sector, there will be no loss to the customers, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansoor.

He said this while talking to media persons on current affairs at the Central Bank on Sunday (September 8).

Stating that the interim government is trying to protect these banks, the governor said, “We hope that no bank will go bankrupt.” But it is also true that many banks are insolvent. Such a situation of 10 banks. The government is trying to save these banks.

The governor said, in such a situation, it has been decided to make the deposit insurance scheme Tk 2 lakh instead of Tk 1 lakh to restore the confidence of customers. If a bank goes bankrupt, small depositors will get their money back immediately. There is nothing to panic. Reforms have already started in the banking sector. Something is working. Right now our main objective is to restore the confidence of the depositors. So the governor advised not to panic.

Regarding the seizure of bank accounts, the governor said, so far we have not seized the account of any organization. Be it S Alam or Salman F Rahman. No organization's bank account has been seized. All individual accounts whose accounts have been frozen. We don't want to join any business. We don't want job loss and production disruption.

Stating that there will be no loss to the customers due to the condition of the banking sector, the Governor said, the interests of 95 percent of the customers of the banking sector will be ensured. No country in the world guarantees 100% of deposits in the banking sector. We guarantee 95% customer satisfaction.

Governor Ahsan H Mansoor said that 70 thousand crore rupees had gone out of the banking sector, although he did not mention the names of the 10 banks that were on the verge of bankruptcy. Of this, about 30 thousand rupees have returned.

In response to a question, the governor said that the policies of the central bank which have been criticized during the Awami League government will be reviewed.

It is to be noted that the central bank has announced to take necessary measures to identify the robbers of this sector besides restoring order in the banking sector. Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansoor also said that the task force will start working within 10 days to bring back the looted money. Dr. after being empty for a long time in this condition. On Sunday, under the signature of Afshana Bilkis, the notification issued by the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance said that Bangladesh Bank's Executive Director Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and Dr. Md. Kabir Ahmed has been appointed as Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank. They are appointed on contractual basis for 3 years from the date of joining.
