10 people sentenced to prison, 114 acquitted

10 people have been sentenced to imprisonment for various terms in the case of Shahbagh police station in connection with the leak of question papers of admission and job recruitment examination in various educational institutions.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque's court gave this verdict on Sunday (September 15). Abdullah Al Mamun, the lawyer of the defendant, confirmed this information to the media.

He said that seven of the convicts have been sentenced to 4 years and three to 2 years. However, as the accused are absconding, arrest warrants have been issued against them.

Besides, the court acquitted 114 other people as the charges were not proved.

It is known that ahead of the admission test of Dhaka University, on October 20, 2017, CID raided two residential halls and arrested two students named Mamun and Rana in connection with question leakage. Later, based on the information given by them, a student named Rafi was arrested from the examination hall the next day.

On that day, CID filed a case under Section 63 of the Information and Communication Technology Act of 2006 and Section 9 (b) of the Public Examination Act of 1980 at the Shahbag police station for involvement in cheating.
