12 groups demand exemplary punishment for those who destroy communal harmony

The 12-party alliance has condemned and protested the death of two brothers who were beaten up by angry people on suspicion of setting fire to a temple in Faridpur.

In a statement on Thursday, the leaders of the 12-party alliance said that the brutal attack on the workers was carried out only on suspicion. This incident is a communal incitement. In a statement, alliance leaders demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The leaders said that Bangladesh is a unique country of communal harmony. Although there is diversity in the religious beliefs of the inhabitants of this country, there has been communal harmony among themselves since time immemorial. Two Muslim workers were brutally killed and five others injured by the local Hindu community on suspicion of a fire in a temple in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur district. We are shocked by such a heinous incident. We strongly condemn and protest against it.

They said that there was a fire in the Kalimandir of Panchapalli village of Dumain Union of Madukhali police station. It is not yet known how it started. The fire broke out in the temple within 10 to 15 minutes of lighting the lamp in the evening. At that time there were seven Muslim workers in the construction of the school building next to the temple. But no one has seen them set the fire or there is no logical reason to suspect that they may have had an ulterior motive. However, they brutally attacked those workers just on suspicion. This incident is clearly communal incitement.

In the statement, the leaders of the 12 parties demanded from the government to bring exemplary punishment to the people involved in this murder through judicial investigation. They said that if the government fails to take quick action in this case, and as a result the situation goes out of control, the government will have to bear the responsibility.

Those who gave the statement are Jatiya Party Chairman Jamal Haider, LDP Secretary General Shahadat Hussain Salim, Jatiya Party Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda, Jamiat Ulamae Islam Bangladesh Secretary General Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ikram, Jagpa Rashed Pradhan, Labor Party Farooq Rahman, Kalyan Party Shamsuddin Parvez, Islami Oikya. Maulana Abdul Karim of the alliance, Abul Kashem of the Bangladesh Islamic Party.
