12 km long human chain in Kolkata over RG tax case


Kolkata, India has witnessed a novel protest over the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Common citizens observed a human chain program on the 12 km long road on the important EM bypass of the city.

Calcutta, India is in uproar over the rape and murder of a woman doctor of RG Kar. The 25th day of the incident also witnessed the rarest of protests.

On Tuesday (September 3) afternoon, thousands of ordinary people participated in a non-violent human chain program in an area around 12 km from Beleghata to Patuli on Kolkata's Metropolitan Bypass Road.

Earlier, after meeting Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, the junior doctors staged a peaceful sit-in strike at the police headquarters in Lalbazar, demanding his 5-point resignation.

Meanwhile, when Sandeep Ghosh, the most talked about doctor after the RG tax case, was taken to the Alipore court on Tuesday, he faced protests by lawyers there. The CID asked for a 10-day remand, but the court granted an 8-day remand.

Besides, on this day, the West Bengal state government passed a bill called 'Aparajita', making death penalty the maximum punishment for rapists. Opposition BJP supports this bill. Through this, the West Bengal government made the first amendment to the Central Act on rape, gang rape and sexual offenses against children.

It is to be noted that on August 9, a female doctor was raped and murdered during night duty at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. From the next day, protests started across India protesting the murder of the victim and demanding justice.
