157 upazilas announced general holiday on May 21


The government has declared a general holiday in the respective areas for the second phase of polling in the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections.

According to the notification, as per the serial number 37 of the Allocation of Business Among the Different Ministries and Divisions of the Ministry of Public Administration, according to the demand of the Bangladesh Election Commission Secretariat, on the occasion of the general election of 157 Upazila Parishads, a general holiday has been declared on May 21 in the respective constituencies.

Meanwhile, all banks in 157 upazilas will be closed on Tuesday (May 21).

The Department of Offsite Supervision (DOS) of Bangladesh Bank informed this information in a circular on Thursday (May 16).

It said that according to the notification dated May 15 of the Public Administration Ministry, general elections of councils will be held on May 21 in 21 upazilas of Rangpur division, 19 of Rajshahi division, 25 of Khulna division, 14 of Barisal division, 30 of Dhaka division, 11 of Mymensingh division, 11 of Sylhet division and 26 of Chittagong division. will be

On the occasion of the election, a general holiday has been declared in the respective constituencies on the polling day.

In this situation, Bangladesh Bank has decided to close all the branches or sub-branches including the regional offices of the scheduled banks located in the respective electoral areas on the day of the election.

Apart from this, the central bank said that an instruction in this regard has been sent to the managing directors and chief executive officers of practically all scheduled banks in the country.
