21-point protest by workers of The Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals

The workers of the Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Kaliakair, Gazipur staged a protest on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the morning based on their 21-point demand.

On Wednesday (August 28) morning, the workers of The Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals Ltd., located in the Safipur area of the upazila, started an agitation for the realization of 21-point demands by stopping work. Later the agitators crossed the main photo and blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway. At that time, the workers participated in the movement to realize their various demands, including job stabilization, salary increase, and removal of dishonest officials. Meanwhile, due to the protest, severe traffic jam was created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, which continued for a long time. As a result thousands of vehicles get stuck and common commuters have to suffer a lot.

The agitators said that the main demands of the workers are regularization of their jobs, revision of existing salaries, and equal payment of festival allowances (Eid and Baisakhi). Also, they alleged that several unscrupulous officials have been treating the workers inhumanely and depriving them of their due dues for a long time. Although demands have been made to the authorities for a long time, no solution has been found. In this context, forced to protect their rights, they started the movement.

Protests by the marchers brought traffic to a standstill on the highways, due to which the common people especially the emergency service users were severely affected. Emergency ambulance and other services have been disrupted. Pedestrians and commuters were panicked, and their movement suffered greatly.

Position of the organization and action taken by the administration: Till the time of writing this report, no official response has been received from the organization. However, the army and the industrial police administration have started talks with the workers to bring the situation under control. The administration has assured the workers that their demands will be taken into consideration and resolved.

The strike has been announced to continue until the workers' demands are met, which is causing major disruption in the production activities of the company. The situation has raised concerns among local residents and highway users, with the agitating workers relying on the administration's action for a quick solution.
