3 killed in knife attack at festival in Germany

Three people have been stabbed to death at a festival in the western German city of Solingen. Four people were seriously injured. Reuters reported that the attack happened on Friday night local time.

It is said that there was only one attacker. But the police could not catch him. The mayor of Solinez, Tim-Oliver Karzbach, expressed regret for the casualty.

In a message he said, “This incident of attack in our city breaks my heart. I have tears in my eyes for those we have lost. My condolences to the injured.”

Police say the attack took place during an event to mark the 650th anniversary of the city of Solingen.

According to the mayor's message, the attack took place at an open-air band concert in a commercial premises on the occasion of the city's founding anniversary.

The city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia borders the Netherlands. It is also one of the most populous cities in Germany.

State Home Minister Herbert Reul visited the scene immediately after the knife attack. He told reporters that this attack was carried out with the intention of killing people. However, he could not say anything about the reason for the attack.

Fatal knife and gun attacks are rare in Germany. The last knife attack happened last June. At that time, a 29-year-old policeman died in a knife attack during a right-wing protest in the city of Mannheim.
