4 people died in Comilla due to severe flood


Comilla has been affected by heavy rains and landslides from the upstream for a few days. The flood situation is gradually deteriorating. Four people have died in Comilla so far due to ongoing floods. Two of them drowned in the flood water, one was electrocuted in the rain and one died when a tree fell on his head.

The deceased are Keramat Ali (45) of Daudpur area of ​​Nangalkot municipality, Kishore Rafi (15) of Chota area of ​​Comilla town, Shahadat Hossain (34) son of Kanu Mia of Sonakatia village of Chauddagram upazila and the child who drowned in Laksam is not known.

Quoting the locals, Nangalkot Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Debashish Chowdhury said that Keramat Ali of Daudpur area of ​​Nangalkot fell under a local bridge while fishing on Wednesday night. When he got lost in the strong current, the local people started searching for him. After a while, his body was found a little away from the spot. The local people rescued him and took him to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

On Wednesday (August 21) afternoon, a teenager named Rafi (15) from Comilla Nagar died after being electrocuted by an electric pole in the rain. Doctor Yobair Hossain of Comilla General Hospital confirmed this.

An expatriate named Shahadat Hossain (34) died when a tree fell while fishing in flood waters in Chauddagram. The incident took place in Sonakatia (ideal village) Purbapara area of ​​Chauddagram municipality on Wednesday morning. Trinath Saha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chouddagram police station confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, a lawyer named Sohrab Hossain died due to electrocution in the rain. After leaving his pregnant wife at the diagnostic center at Saladin intersection in Comilla city, she died after getting caught in an electric wire falling in the rain water. Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Hossain confirmed the matter.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Comilla Pankaj Barua said that everyone should be careful in dealing with disasters. The district administration is working to help the victims of the ongoing flood. People in dangerous areas are requested to go to safe shelter.

Dr. Comilla Civil Surgeon. Nachima Akter said that 17 medical teams have been formed in 17 upazilas of the district. From the upazila medical team, the medical team has been formed at the union level. Sufficient drugs and saline are being provided.
