4 policemen were injured in the attack after the upazila parishad election

4 policemen were injured in the attack by supporters of Altaf Hossain Laltu, the defeated candidate in the Kalaroa Upazila Parishad elections of Satkhira.

The clash took place in front of Kalaroa police station gate around 8 pm on Thursday (May 30). The injured policemen are ASI Aslam, Constable Faisal, Milan and Mizan.

Locals said that the Kalaroa police called upon both parties to settle after the isolated incidents that happened after the election with the workers and supporters of the winning candidate Aminul Islam Laltu and the defeated candidate Altaf Hossain Laltu. Kalaroa Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam urged both parties to file complaints in writing as they did not agree on the settlement.

At one stage, the supporter of the defeated candidate Alataf Hossain Laltur and Awami League leader Majnu Chowdhury went in front of the police station gate and abused the OC Rafiqul Islam. When the police stopped the matter, the defeated candidate Altaf Hossain Laltur was attacked by his supporters. 4 policemen were injured. The injured policemen have been admitted to Kalaroa Upazila Health Complex.

Satkhira Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Matiur Rahman Siddiqui confirmed the matter and said, “The situation is normal at present.”
