49ers Radio Personality Would Take Brock Purdy Over Ravens Star Lamar Jackson

Radio host Matt Steinmetz said he would choose Brocky Purdy over Lamar Jackson to be the San Francisco 49ers quarterback on 95.7 The Game, a local radio station.

“You guys know I’m not a homer right? I try to be as objective as I can. I don’t pander, I don’t troll, I tell you what I think. And maybe I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m going to say it. If you told me you could drop Lamar Jackson on to the Niners right now, I think I’d say ‘No thank you. I’m going to roll with Brock Purdy this year.”

Steinmetz’s comments come after the Thursday Night Football showdown where Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens lost 27-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jackson’s performance featured 273 passing yards as well as 122 yards on the ground.

Although Brock Purdy isn’t a two-time MVP, local Bay area radio host would choose him over Lamar Jackson.

Despite his phenomenal numbers, in the moments that mattered most, Jackson failed to complete three pivotal passes in the end zone.

Jackson went 1 of 5 on passing attempts with 20-plus yards against Kansas City.

The two-time MVP’s inability to make clutch throws in the final minutes of the game has raised questions about his ability to perform under pressure.

It was evident there was still a wide talent gap between Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, who is a prolific pocket passer.

Steinmetz believes Jackson wouldn’t be a good fit for the current offensive scheme in San Francisco.

“There’s just something about Lamar Jackson. He’s great. He’s better than Brock Purdy, but I don’t know if he could be better playing for Kyle Shanahan. I know it sounds crazy, but there’s something about Lamar Jackson where everything you do on offense has to be centered on him. It’s all about him. I look at the Niners and how they’ve had success, and one of the things that Shanahan subscribes to is a diversified offense. And I’m not saying he would reject Lamar Jackson. But I don’t think Lamar Jackson is the kind of quarterback that Shanahan would want.”

Steinmetz makes a good point. Purdy plays an ‘all guts no glory’ type role in an offense abundant with star talent. In Baltimore, Jackson is the star.

Although Jackson certainly has the resume to lead a star-studded team like the 49ers, his best qualities wouldn’t quite fit into a scheme orchestrated by a play-calling mastermind like Shanahan.

Shanahan runs a balanced system that highlights versatile personnel packages. Meanwhile, Baltimore’s entire offensive scheme surrounds Jackson.
