5 killed, 40 injured as passenger bus falls from flyover


At least five people were killed when a passenger bus lost control and fell off a flyover in the Indian state of Odisha. Among the dead are four men and one woman. Also, more than 40 passengers were injured in the accident. There were about 50 passengers in the bus. News Hindustan Times.

The incident took place at Barbati flyover in Jajpur area of ​​Orissa on Monday (April 15) night. The bus was coming from Puri district of Odisha to Kolkata.

It is known that the passenger bus was moving along the national highway at night. On the way, the driver lost control after climbing the Barbati flyover in the state. That's why the passenger bus got into an accident.

According to local police, the condition of 30 out of 40 injured people is critical. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. However, the critically ill have been taken to SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.

Tapan Kumar Naik, in-charge of Dharamshala police station, said that the rescue operation is going on at the accident site.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his condolences to the victims of the incident. He announced to pay Rs 3 lakh to the relatives of the deceased.

Expressing grief on microblogging site X, Naveen Patnaik wrote, I am saddened to know about the passenger bus accident in Barbati Street area of ​​Jajpur district. I pray for the souls of the deceased and express my condolences to their families. Also, I wish speedy recovery to all the injured.

Earlier on June 2 last year, three trains collided head-on in Bahanga Bazar area of ​​Baleshwar district of Odisha. That was the biggest news in the ongoing train wreck. More than 300 passengers lost their lives in the terrible collision between three trains – Howrah Shalimar to Chennai Kormandal Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and Malbhai.
