Former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, Former Deputy Sports Minister Arif Khan Joy, Awami League Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Retired Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, Former Chairman of Chittagong Port and General Secretary of Dhaka University Branch of Chhatra League Tanveer Hasan Saikat have been remanded for three more days by the court. Former State Minister for Telecommunication and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak has been remanded for three days and six days by the court in two separate murder cases.
On Sunday (September 1), the Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka ordered Moinul Islam's remand after the court hearing.
At around 6:30 a.m. this Sunday morning, investigating officer Sub-Inspector Akkas Mia of Lalbagh police station produced the 6 accused in the murder case of Khalid Hasan Saifullah, a first year student of Ideal College, after a seven-day remand. He again applied for seven days remand of Shamsul Haque Tuku, Arif Khan Joy and Mohammad Sohail.
Meanwhile, the investigating officer of the concerned police station, Inspector Mintu Chandra Vanik, showed the arrest and applied for a seven-day remand of Ahmad Hossain and Tanveer Hasan Saikat.
And Junayed Ahmed Palak was remanded for seven days with the arrest of Suman Sikdar at Badda police station and Ikram Hossain Kawsar and Omar Farooq murder case at Sutrapur police station. The state party heard in favor of granting remand. Pro-BNP lawyer Anwarul Islam also heard in favor of remand. On behalf of the accused, their lawyer Morshed Hossain Shaheen applied for bail seeking cancellation of remand. After the hearing, the court ordered remand.
Shamsul Haque Tuku, Deputy Speaker of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad, was arrested on August 14 while hiding from Nikunj residential area of ββKhilkhet police station in the capital.
Former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak and General Secretary of Dhaka University Chhatra League Tanveer Hasan Saikat were arrested. The court granted their 10-day remand in the murder case of a rickshaw driver named Kamal Mia in Paltan of the capital.
On August 20, the court granted a five-day remand to Arif Khan Joy in the case of the murder of grocer Abu Sayed in Mohammadpur.
Ahmed Hossain was arrested from Gulshan in the capital on the night of August 20 and Sohail from Banani area. The next day, the court ordered their remand for four days in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Navin Talukder at Paltan police station.
On August 25, the court granted seven-day remand to each of them in the Khalid Hasan Saifullah murder case. On that day, Saikat was ordered to be remanded for another five days in the case of Chawkbazar police station on charges of attempted murder of Dhaka University student Tahmid Mobin Ratul.
