7-day ultimatum to reduce oil-sugar-potato prices


The anti-discrimination student movement has given an ultimatum to bring down the price of edible oil to Tk 120, sugar price to Tk 90 and potato price to Tk 25 within the next 7 days.

At the same time, the platform of the movement demanded the formation of a truth commission to prevent corruption, usurpation, syndicates and dictators.

This ultimatum was given at noon on Wednesday (August 21) in an exchange meeting with the representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement and representatives of the Bangladesh Competition Commission, Bangladesh Bank, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and all government and private business organizations regarding the supply and price situation of edible oil, sugar and other daily necessities.

Bangladesh Competition Commission Chairperson Pradeep Ranjan Chakraborty presided over it.

Bin Yamin Mollah, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, β€œToday we want to say one thing, within the next 7 days, the price of edible oil should be brought down to Tk 120, sugar to Tk 90, potato price to Tk 25 per kg. In that case, I am giving this ultimatum to all the related government institutions including the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Bank and all the private business institutions. How you determine this price within a week is your responsibility. Students and public would like to see the implementation of this price within a week.
