7 lakh Tk

Chatter League seat trading in the residential halls of the country's universities is nothing new. Bangladesh Agricultural University (Bakribi) was no exception. So far no one has accepted seat trading out of fear. The victims had to remain hostages to the Chhatra League.

Victims are now starting to open up after the fall of the dictatorial government. A number of students in Fazlul Haque Hall have filed a written complaint mentioning the name of a leader who got a seat by paying how much money.

According to hall sources, the two main sources of income of Chhatra League activists are dining in residential halls and seat trade. Basically, those who come from other universities to do Masters, are given seats by taking money. Many times the students had to stay in the hall twice due to lack of coordination between the leaders of the hall. Not only that, but if the students of Bakribi wanted to go up beyond the first year, money was taken from them too. Starting from 10,000 to 18,000 taka per head. After calculating the money of those who have complained in writing, it has been seen that last year only Fazlul Haque had a total seat trade of 7 lakh 8 thousand rupees. If you get all the information, the amount of money can be easily guessed. As the university has not yet officially opened, all the students are not in the hall. As a result majority of them are out as students.

In the written complaint, the victims mentioned the names of several people involved in the seat trade at Fazlul Haque Hall. Among them, the student who did not get a university degree, Sheikh Mehdi Rumi Joy, postgraduate student AHM Helaluzzaman (Don), Md. Rakibul Islam Rakib, Khan Mohammad Hasnain Kabir, Ariful Islam Sagar and Md. Majnu Rana

Students of 2019-20 academic year. Mohabbat Ali said, first I got up. But the torture of the guest room left me. Then, when I tried to get up, the leaders and activists of the Chhatra League stopped me. If you contact the principal of the hall, you will not be able to give the seat if you do not have the money. After that, Fazlul Haq Hall's Chhatra League leader Helal and Rakib were given a large sum of money. Those who came up with me paid 10-12 thousand taka. I am a student of this university, why do I have to pay? I want a fair trial.

Akibul Islam, a student of the year 2017-18, said that I stayed out for four years because of the violence of the Chhatra League even though I stood first. Later, due to financial distress, when I tried to get up, the leaders and activists of BCL did not allow me to get up. After that I paid 8 and a half thousand taka to HM Helal Uddin. Why do I have to pay as a resident student in Hall? I want justice. We want to ensure that no one should fall prey to this kind of system in the future.

The third year student of the university. Al-Amin said, although I joined the hall at the beginning of the first year, I left the hall for various activities of the Chhatra League and stayed out for two years. But my father is a garment worker. It was not possible for him to bear the cost of staying outside the hall. For this reason, AHM Helaluzzaman, leader of Fazlul Haque Hall, told Dawn and Rakibul Islam, and they gave me a seat in the hall for Tk 12,000. I had to pay to get into the hall despite having a full hall of residence, which is very shameful and disgraceful.

Raihan Hriday, a third year student of veterinary faculty said, I left the hall after admission to the university due to the pressure of Chhatra League. I was out of the hall for almost 2 years. I was having a lot of trouble staying outside the hall like this. Later I contacted my friends and tried to go up to Fazlul Haque Hall. Fazlul Haque Hall Chhatra League leader AHM Helaluzzaman Don and Rakibul Islam took money from me to the hall. Also they cheated many of my friends with money at different times. They took 10 thousand or more from me and my friends. I am drawing the attention of the administration so that no one else becomes a victim like me.

Accused AHM Helaluzzaman said that everyone knows about seat trade. There is no denying this fact. However, we who were BCL workers in the hall, were only the medium of the president and secretary of the university branch BCL. None of us would take this money for seat trading. We were only the medium.

Accused Ariful Islam Sagar said that all the allegations brought against me are false. I have no idea who is making these complaints. I am not aware of charging for hall seats. I have no involvement with seat trading. Maybe they are making all these complaints in my name because I am a Chhatra League official.

Rakibul Islam said about seat trading complaints, these are false complaints. I was never involved in the seat trade. I was the most senior representative of the hall. That's why someone gave my name out of anger.

However, it was not possible to contact the rest of the accused over the phone.
