7 leaders of Jabi Chhatra League accused in college student murder case

A case has been filed against Omar Farooq, a student of Kabi Nazrul College, in Laxmibazar area of ​​the capital during the anti-discrimination student movement. Seven leaders of Jagannath University (JUB) Chhatra League are among the 49 accused in this case.

They are Jobi Chhatra League President Ibrahim Faraji, General Secretary SM Aktar Hossain, Vice President Mohiuddin Ani, Ibrahim Sanim, Abul Hossain Parag, Organizing Secretary Rifat Saeed and former President Tariqul Islam.

Apart from this, the brother of Shariful Islam, the former president of Jobi Chhatra League, and the controversial police sub-inspector Nahidul Islam, who was once in charge of the police outpost located next to Jagannath University, have also been accused.

On Tuesday (August 20) afternoon, the case was filed in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tariqul Islam's court by the mother of the deceased college student, Kulchuma Akhter. At that time, the court accepted the statement of the plaintiff and ordered Sutrapur Thana Police to accept the complaint as a statement.

It should be noted that 49 people, including Sheikh Hasina, have been accused in the murder case filed. The notable defendants in the case are former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Prime Minister's Advisor Salman F Rahman, former Information Minister Muhammad Ali Arafat, former MP Jahangir Kabir Nanak and others.

It is alleged in the case that Omar Farooq, a third year student of Islamic History and Culture Department of Jobi Nazrul Government College, was involved with his friends in the anti-discrimination student movement in front of the main gate of the college on July 19. At this time around 4:30 pm, the accused shot Omar Farooq multiple times in the chest and back. He later died while being taken to hospital for treatment.
