8 people died in the terrible flood, the danger is not over


No one could have imagined that the flood situation in the country would be like this in Bhadra month. Due to sudden heavy rains and the opening of dams in India, severe floods have occurred in Feni, Noakhali, Comilla, Laxmipur, Brahmanbaria, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachari, Chittagong, Habiganj, Moulvibazar. Millions of people's homes and crops have been submerged in water. Humanitarian disaster has been created in different districts. Among them, 8 deaths have been reported so far.

Four people have died in Comilla so far due to ongoing floods. The deceased are Keramat Ali (45) of Daudpur area of ​​Nangalkot municipality, Kishore Rafi (15) of Chota area of ​​Comilla town, Shahadat Hossain (34) son of Kanu Mia of Sonakatia village of Chauddagram upazila and a child drowned in Laksam. His name is not known. Two of the victims died of electrocution. Besides, on Wednesday (August 21) afternoon, a teenager named Rafi (15) from Comilla Nagar died after being electrocuted by touching an electric pole in the rain.

Meanwhile, more than two hundred villages were flooded in Cox's Bazar due to continuous rains for several days and at least 300,000 people were trapped in water. The regional and rural roads of these areas have been submerged in water and traffic has stopped. Two people died in this district after being swept away by water. They died on Thursday (August 22). The deceased are Saching Marma (26) and Amjad Hochan (22) of Ramu Upazila.

The flood situation has worsened in Eidgaon, Chakria-Pekua and Ramu of the district. Houses and shops were submerged in water. People of hundreds of villages of these upazilas are running to safe shelter. Residents of Kazorbil, Dengarchar, Paschim Bomankhil, Jumpara, Patalbarpara, Rajghat, Jauchpara, Morichyachar, Jumchari, Purbajumchari, Moinyakata, Purbabomankhil, Bomankhil and Mazhirkata of Garznia in Ramu Upazila have become waterlogged. Roman, a resident of Ramu, said that various low-lying areas of Ramu have been flooded due to continuous rain. Apart from this, two people died after being washed away by the torrent of water.

One person died after drowning in flood water in Phulgazi upazila of Feni. But his identity is not known. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief informed the matter. Besides, a pregnant woman named Subarna Akhtar drowned in the flood water caused by the landslide in Akhaura of Brahmanbaria. The incident took place in Birchandrapur village of Sadar Union of the upazila around 2 pm on Wednesday. Surbana Akhtar is the wife of Parvez Mia of Birchandrapur village.

The ministry said on Thursday that 1 lakh 89 thousand 663 families in Comilla, Feni, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar were trapped in water from last Tuesday to Thursday. 17 lakh 96 thousand 248 people have been affected.

From Wednesday morning, water started entering at high speed from India through the canal running beside the Akhaura land port. At one point the entire land port area was flooded with water. The passenger crossing and import-export work of the port was stopped.
