8700 accused in 3 cases in Khulna



Police killings and sabotage

Three cases have been filed on charges of police killing and sabotage in the ongoing movement in Khulna. Although no one's name is mentioned in these cases, 8 thousand 700 people have been made unknown accused.

Out of this, 1,000 to 1,200 people have been charged in the police murder case, 5,000 to 7,000 in the case of vandalism, obstruction of government work and injury to the police and 400 to 500 people have been charged in the case of setting fire to the police vehicle.

According to police sources, the police fired 1731 rubber bullets, 190 tear gas and 101 sound grenades to control the incident on August 2.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Mozammel Haque said that a constable named Suman Gharami was killed in the beating of the agitators, three cases were filed separately in three police stations in connection with the burning of the police car, sabotage and injury to the police. CCTV and video footage are being watched to arrest the real accused in all these incidents. The process of identifying the accused is going on by looking at the CCTV footage of the police beating.

He said the police fired rubber bullets to scare the protesters. No one was injured by the police. But while returning after controlling the incident, policemen were beaten up and killed and injured.

OC of Saltachara Police Station, Momtazul Islam, said that a case has been filed against 1,000 to 1,200 people, including 5 names of unknown people, in connection with the death of police constable Suman Kumar Gharami in the beating of agitators. No accused has been arrested. Police station SI Mostafa Saqlain filed the case as the plaintiff. Video footage of the incident is being viewed. Police operation is being conducted to arrest the real accused. The video footage of Suman being beaten to death is being watched. Efforts are on to identify the accused.

Monirul Islam, OC of Haritana police station, said that a case has been filed against 5 to 7 thousand unknown persons in the case of sabotage, obstructing and injuring government work. No arrests have been made in this case by the police yet.

OC Kamal Hossain of Khulna Sadar Police Station said that a case has been filed against 400 to 500 unidentified people in connection with setting fire to the police prison van. No one has been arrested so far.
