Due to the arrears of lakhs of rupees per village police for travel and daily allowance for attendance at the police station, the family has to run on loans. Despite repeated appeals to the concerned authorities, there is no benefit. As a result, those village policemen and their families are living an inhumane life.
Such incident happened in 6 unions of Dharmapasha Upazila of Sunamganj, 56 people and 35 village police in 4 unions of Madhyanagar Upazila, a total of 91 village police. However, the concerned authorities say that due to insufficient revenue in the revenue sector, it is not possible to pay the salaries and allowances of the UP sector.
It has been found that 91 village police are working in Dharmapasha and Madhyanagar upazilas of the district. Pay allowances of the UP section of village police and travel and daily allowances for attendance at police stations are generally paid from 1% of the proceeds of immovable property transfer tax received from the office of the Sub-Registrar. Salary allowances and festive allowances are also provided from the government sector at par with the UP sector. 1% of immovable property transfer tax in case of payment of UP share is not collected in Hat Bazar lease There is also a directive to pay 41% of income.
1 lakh 29 thousand 350 rupees per village police in Madhyanagar. Among them, nineteen months salary allowance of UP part is 61 thousand 750 taka, two months salary allowance of government part is 6 thousand 500 taka, three festival allowance is 9 thousand 750 taka and forty three months travel and daily attendance allowance at police station is 51 thousand 600 taka.
On the other hand, each village police in Dharmapasha owes Tk 1 lakh 17 thousand 500. Out of this, eleven months salary allowance of UP part is 35 thousand 750 taka, one month salary allowance of government part is 3 thousand 250 taka, two festival allowances are 6 thousand 500 taka and six months travel and daily attendance allowance at police station is 72 thousand taka.
As such, 56 people in Dharmapasha have 65 lakh 80 thousand and 35 people in Madhyanagar have 45 lakh 27 thousand 250 taka and a total of 1 crore 11 lakh 7 thousand 250 taka is outstanding.
Meanwhile, upazila executive officer Mohammad Ghiyas Uddin has arranged to pay one month of UP part, one month of government part and one festival allowance to the village policemen of Dharmapasha on Thursday.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Village Police Employees Union Branch and Village Police of Dharmapasha Sadar Union Ashiq Mia said that he is living an inhumane life as he is owed more than lakhs of salary and allowances. Had to take loans to run the family and educate the children. He is unable to pay his creditors on time. Most of the village police are in the same situation as him.
Madhyanagar UP Chairman Sanjib Ranjan Talukder Titu said that the village police are living inhuman life due to arrears of salary and allowance. I have also raised the matter several times in the coordination meeting for payment of their salaries.
Sukhair Rajapur South UP chairman Mokarram Hossain said that if the salary and allowances are not received on time, the interest in work decreases. Still the village police are working with enthusiasm. Prompt payment of arrears should be arranged.
Madhyanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Atish Darshi Chakma said that the salary and allowance of the village police depends on the income of the sub registrar's office. Due to low income, arrears have accumulated. Government share dues will be paid expeditiously.
Dharmapasha Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Ghiyas Uddin said, due to insufficient income in the revenue sector, it is possible to give salary allowances to the UP sector. no. Yet some dues were paid on Thursday. Necessary action will be taken to pay the remaining dues.
