After 1988, the flood situation has not been so terrible!

Feni has been affected by the worst flood in memory. Phulghazi, Parashuram and Chagalnaya upazilas of this district have already lost communication. Houses, roads, cropland, ponds were washed away by the flood water. Thousands of people are still trapped in water in these places.

In such a situation, these areas are completely without electricity. The mobile network is also closed. Residents of the lower areas of Feni say that the flood situation in this area has never been so severe after 1988.

Due to heavy rains and water coming from India, the waters of Feni's Muhuri, Kahua and Ceylonia rivers are flowing far above the coastal zone.

According to the official Facebook page of Bangladesh Navy on Thursday (August 22), three contingents are working in the rescue operation in Feni. Besides the previous one, two more contingents have been added from today.

The post also mentions that two more contingents of the Navy have departed from Dhaka and Chittagong to participate in the rescue operations in the flood-affected areas in Feni. Diving equipment, life-jackets, speed boats and other necessary equipment are being used in the rescue operation. Emergency medical services and food distribution activities are ongoing.

Feni District Commissioner Shahina Akhtar said that the situation is so bad that it is beyond everyone's imagination. Many people are now trapped in the water. Army and Coast Guard have started to rescue them.

Meanwhile, the leave of all officials and employees of Bangladesh Water Development Board (PUBO) has been canceled in the flood-affected districts across the country. They have been asked to perform their duties from their respective workplaces. Such instructions have been given in a press release of Paubo on Wednesday (August 21).

Incidentally, the flood situation has worsened in the Indian state of Tripura. Seven people have died in the flood so far. India has opened Dambur Hydroelectric Power Project or Dombur Gate in Tripura, India in such a situation. Gomti District Commissioner of Tripura State Tarit Kanti Chakma said this on his official X account (formerly Twitter).
