Among those killed in Jhalkathi, 6 people are from the same family


Fourteen people were killed in a three-way collision between a truck-private car and an auto-rickshaw in Jhalkathi. There are six of them from the same family. The accident took place on Wednesday (April 17) around 2 pm in the toll plaza area of ​​Gabkhan Bridge in the city.

Six members of the same family are Hasibur Rahman (32) in a private car, his wife Nahida Akhtar (27), children Takia (four and a half years), Tahmid (8 months), newly married Imran (26) and his wife Nipa (22). Their house is in Sangar village of Rajapur upazila of Jhalkathi.

Tarika Akhter, sister of Nahida who died in Sadar Hospital, gave this information. She is the daughter of Abdul Barek of Sangar village.

Tarika Akhter said that around 1:30 pm everyone was going to Barisal in a private car after eating and drinking. All of them died in an accident on the way. The dead women are Tarikar's own sister and brother-in-law.

Locals said that a cement laden truck coming from Rajapur direction to Barisal lost control while coming down from Gabkhan bridge at around 2 pm. At that time, the truck hit a private car and an autorickshaw stationed at the toll plaza and fell into the ditch. Although the damage to the truck was minimal, the private car and the autorickshaw were crushed. 11 people died on the spot and three people died while undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical. Besides, 19 people were admitted to the hospital in this incident. Although the names of six of the dead are known, others are not.

Jhalkathi Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul said that the truck lost control at the Gabkhan Bridge toll plaza and fell into the ditch with a private car and an auto. Many people were injured including the toll duty staff. 11 people including children died on the spot and three died in the hospital.

Resident Medical Officer (ROMO) Dr. Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital. Mehdi Hasan Sani said that the dead bodies of the road accident victims have been kept in the morgue.

Meanwhile, the police arrested the driver and the helper of the truck. Besides, a 4-member investigation committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbik Ruhul Amin has been formed in this incident.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Farha Gul Nijhum said that the government will give a total of 5 lakh for the family of the deceased and 50 thousand for the treatment of the injured.
