Announcement of 55-member National Citizen Committee of Students Against Discrimination

A 55-member National Citizens Committee has been formed by convening Muhammad Nasiruddin Patwari. Akhtar Hossain, the former social service secretary of Dakso, has become the member secretary. Samantha Sharmin is the spokesperson of the committee.

This committee was announced at Shaheed Minar on Sunday (September 8).

It is known that Muhammad Naseeruddin Patwari is the former leader of Dhaka University branch of Bangladesh Students Federation. He joined the AB party on September 20, 2022. Nasiruddin was the social service secretary candidate in the last Dhaka University Student Council (DACSU) election.

Besides, the convener of this new committee is Akhtar Hossain Daksu's former social service affairs secretary. Some students including him announced a student organization called “Ganotantric Chhatra Shakti” in 2023. Before establishing Democratic Student Shakti, Akhtar was in the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, the organization of former Daksu VP Nurul Haque Noor. Later they formed a new organization out of that organization.

And the spokesperson of the committee, Samantha Sharmin, is a former student of Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts and is known as a leader of anti-oppression students.

In a notification regarding the formation of the committee, it was informed that the National Citizen Committee is starting its work by forming a convening committee. Soon we will discuss with the social, cultural and religious leaders and people of different classes and professions who participated in the students' uprising at all metropolitan, district and upazila levels. By extending this committee to the grassroots, we will consolidate the power of the students' revolution and work towards the reconstruction of the Bangladesh state.

The circular mentions as the primary task of the convening committee-

* Upholding the collective will and democratic aspirations reflected in the student uprising.

* Taking the necessary programs to bring the people involved in the brutal massacre of the students to justice and ensure punishment.

* To provide support and accountability to the interim government to carry out urgent reforms and restructuring of the state.

* To work with various social, cultural and political initiatives to integrate people from all walks of life through discussion, exchange of ideas and mass-oriented programs.

* Continued resistance against fascist structures and forces with the aim of upholding the aspirations of mass revolution by mobilizing the social, cultural and religious leadership of all levels of the country.

* To organize thematic dialogues with people of various classes and professions and expatriate Bangladeshis for the purpose of determining policies in favor of public interest.

* For the purpose of restructuring the state institutions, making necessary policy recommendations and taking necessary political steps to implement them.

Besides, the organization said that the convening committee will work to organize a public discussion for the creation of a new democratic constitution through a referendum by forming the Constituent Assembly.
