Announcement of long march of students towards Dambur Dam

Inkilab Manch has broken a symbolic dam in Dhaka University demanding the demolition of illegal and one-sided dams on the inter-border rivers of Bangladesh. Meanwhile, on Friday (September 6), they announced a long march of students from Dhaka towards Tripura's Dambur Dam. They announced this by displaying the posters of the long march at a function titled 'Ganadhikkar og Banggar Song' on Friday (August 30) around 6 pm.

In the event, students protested by reciting songs, anti-semitic songs and poems. Later, the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul broke the symbolic dam by playing the song 'Karar Ai Louh Kapat'.

Meanwhile, the students – 'Kill in flood, burn in drought, shed blood on the border', 'Padma-Tista-Abrar, call for war again and again', 'Tista-tipai-farakka, tol re awaz de dakka', 'Felani's brother return back, the killer of the river is gone. Jaak', 'Sonia ar Garua Modi, Ghum Khaye Amar Nadi', 'Murderers in India, dams in rivers, death traps in Bangladesh' displayed festoons.

The speakers said that in the eleventh century, the number of rivers in Bangladesh was about 1500. Now, although there is water in the rainy season, it is almost like a paddy field in the winter. Whereas the traditional form of Bengal was riverine. It is needless to say how much the country's existence can be threatened if the river is endangered. The significant reason why the rivers of Bangladesh are being killed is India's unilateral aggressive activities.

Pointing out that India has violated the internationally recognized law, the speakers said, by force of power, almost all the flow paths of the 54 rivers flowing over Bangladesh have been blocked by dams, and its huge water flow is being flowed to high areas with the help of artificial canals, and it is using water in all fields including agriculture as desired. Now is the time to stop these aggressive activities of India.

Highlighting the harmful aspects of dams, the speakers said, due to Farakka Dam on the upstream Indian Ganges and dams on other rivers, precious resources like the Sundarbans, which are naturally formed, are going towards destruction. The forest is not getting the amount of fresh water it needs to survive. The condition of agriculture is the worst. The GK irrigation scheme in the southern region has been severely affected as the water level has dropped drastically. Many of the irrigators are either shut down or strained beyond their capacity. During the dry season, more than 320 kilometers of waterways in Bangladesh become unnavigable. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people became unemployed.
