Annual exams are returning to schools this year

This year, according to the previous National Curriculum-2012, the examination is being started in a creative manner. Accordingly, the students of class VI to IX will sit for marks-based examination in creative questions instead of marks-based evaluation next December. Apart from this, necessary changes will be made in the teaching method and evaluation process.

As far as possible the assessment procedure will be similar to the previous National Curriculum-2012. Changes will also be brought in the textbooks. Yesterday, the Ministry of Education issued a circular in this regard.

Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mosammat Rahima Akhter signed the circular on 'National Curriculum-2022, providing urgent instructions regarding printing of new books and ongoing evaluation system'. When asked, he said that an urgent instruction has been given by the Ministry of Education regarding the printing and evaluation system of new textbooks.

According to the circular, according to the field experience as well as the opinion of the participants regarding the National Curriculum-2022, the lack of necessary preparation of the teachers in the implementation of this curriculum, ambiguity and negative perception about the curriculum content and evaluation method, the obvious lack of institutional capacity, etc. As practical problems exist, this curriculum appears to be unworkable. In this context some guidelines have been given in overall consideration.

They are pre-primary, minority groups and first, second and third grade textbooks at the primary education level, in the meantime the manuscripts of the fourth and fifth grade textbooks will be printed with necessary corrections and revisions; In this case, necessary changes will be made in the teaching method and evaluation process, as far as possible the evaluation method will be similar to the previous National Curriculum-2012.

The current textbooks for sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grades will remain in place throughout 2024, revised and updated textbooks will be provided as possible in 2025; The students studying in classes VI, VII, VIII and IX will be assessed on the Revised and Revised Assessment System during the remainder of 2024 and in the annual examination. In order to complete the class activities within the stipulated time, six subject-wise evaluation activities for each of classes VI to IX, which are incomplete, will not be held anymore. Based on the revised and revised evaluation outline, the annual examination of classes VI to IX will be held by December 2024. The outline of the revised and revised assessment system will be sent to the schools soon.

In order to take the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2026, the students who have passed the 10th standard in 2026 will be provided with revised and revised textbooks (books used in the 2023 academic year) prepared in the light of the previous curriculum by continuing the science, humanities and business education branches. A short syllabus of these textbooks based on Science, Humanities and Business Education disciplines prepared according to the previous curriculum will be prepared so that the students can complete the syllabus within one academic year. The teaching and evaluation system will be conducted according to the previous syllabus.

The students who will pass class 9 in 2025 will be given revised and revised textbooks (used in 2023 academic year) based on their previous curriculum, these students will participate in the SSC and equivalent examinations of 2027 after completing the entire curriculum in two academic years of class 9 and 10. The revised curriculum will be finalized in 2025 with the cooperation of educationists, curriculum experts, pedagogues, evaluation experts, subject matter experts, concerned education administrators, civil society representatives and parent representatives, which will be fully implemented from 2026.

NCTB Chairman AKM Riazul Hasan said that the students who have given the six-monthly evaluation exam will take the creative exam in December. The book will remain the same. Instructions in this regard will reach them very soon. They have no reason to worry.
