Anwar Hossain Manju arrested

Former minister Anwar Hossain Manju was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) police.

DB's Joint Commissioner of Police (North) confirmed to the media that he was detained from Dhanmondi in the capital on Monday afternoon. Rabiul Hossain Bhuiya.

He said, there are five cases against Manju. A team of DB police arrested him. He has been taken to DB office. He will be interrogated there. Police may produce him in court tomorrow, Tuesday (September 3). Following other leaders, he will also be remanded.

Before this, he was minister of two ministries (Ministry of Communications and Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources).

He was elected Member of Parliament six times (1986, 1988, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2014) from Pirojpur-2 Constituency.

Manju is the leader of a section of Jatiya Party, known as JP.

His father Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia was a renowned politician and the founder of Dainik Ittefaq. Anwar Hossain Manju was the editor of Daily Ittefaq from 1972-1975.

Manju was a member of the convening committee of the 76-member BNP formed on September 1, 1978.

Later he supported the government led by Awami League during 1996-2001. At that time, Anwar Hossain Manju was given the responsibility of the Minister of Communication of the Government of Bangladesh.

Since 2008, he has been one of the top leaders of the 14-party alliance led by Awami League. He was the Minister of Forest and Environment and Water Resources in the cabinet led by Sheikh Hasina.
