Appointment of 66 Deputy Attorney General and 161 Assistant Attorney General

The government has appointed 66 new Deputy Attorney Generals and 161 Assistant Attorney Generals. At the same time, the appointment of all Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General appointed before August 13 has been cancelled.

On Wednesday (August 28) a separate notification was issued by the Solicitor's Office of the Ministry of Law. The appointment of all Deputy Attorney Generals appointed by the Sheikh Hasina government has been cancelled, except for the 9 Deputy Attorney Generals appointed by the interim government.

The notification signed by Solicitor Runa Nahid Akhtar said, “On August 13, except for the 9 Deputy Attorney Generals, all Deputy Attorney Generals and Assistant Attorneys General appointed earlier have been rescinded and re-ordered as the power given in Article 3(1) of the President of Bangladesh Law Officer Order 1972.” Bangladesh appointed 66 lawyers of the Supreme Court as Deputy Attorney General and 161 lawyers as Assistant Attorney General.

In the notification regarding the Deputy Attorney General, it is said that except for the 9 Deputy Attorney Generals who were appointed on August 13, the appointment of all previously appointed Deputy Attorneys General has been canceled until the Supreme Court re-orders under the powers provided in Article 3 (1) of The Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972. 66 lawyers have been appointed as Deputy Attorney General of Bangladesh. According to the announcement of the Solicitor's Department regarding the appointment of Assistant Attorney General, the appointments of all previously appointed Assistant Attorney Generals have been canceled and 161 lawyers have been appointed to the post of Assistant Attorney General of Bangladesh until re-ordered by the Supreme Court in accordance with Article 3 (1) of The Bangladesh Law Officers Order 1972.
