Approval of Draft National Gene Bank Management Policy

The Advisory Council has approved the draft of National Gene Bank Management Policy 24.

This information was informed in a press release sent by the Cabinet Department on Thursday (September 5).

According to the notification, the National Gene Bank Management Policy 24 has been drafted for the purpose of understanding the importance of genetic resources, proper conservation and sustainable use of food security, dealing with risks arising from climate change, sustainable socio-economic development and meeting the needs of current and future generations. Presented for approval in council meeting.

A committee consisting of advisers, Ministry of Agriculture and advisers, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has been formed by convening the Advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for the experimental update and revision of the draft National Gene Bank Management Policy 24. The Ministry of Science and Technology will provide secretarial support to the committee. The committee will finalize an updated and revised draft of the policy in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

The committee will send the revised gene bank management policy to the cabinet department for presentation in the entrepreneurship ministry advisory council meeting.

Meanwhile, the Advisory Council adopted a formal congratulatory resolution for the Bangladesh national cricket team's 2-0 victory over hosts Pakistan in the two-match Test series, which was issued through a gazette notification.
