Armed forces rescued 9,500 flood victims


Various units and contingents of the Bangladesh Armed Forces have rescued around 9,500 flood-affected people in the last 24 hours from the flood-affected districts of the northeastern part of the country through 55 boats and helicopters. The rescued have been sent to various shelters.

A significant number of medical teams have been deployed in flood affected districts. Besides, relief and food items have been distributed among about 5,000 flood affected people.

This information was informed in a press release sent by the Inter-Services Public Relations Department (ISPR) on Saturday.

According to the ISPR notice, due to the deterioration of the flood situation, various units and contingents of the armed forces are working relentlessly in the rescue operations of the flood victims in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Comilla, Feni, Chittagong and Khagrachari. In the last 24 hours, those rescued from the flood affected areas have been sent to various shelters. Besides, relief and food items have been distributed among about 5 thousand flood affected people. Besides, a significant number of medical teams of armed forces have been deployed for medical assistance in the flood-affected districts.

It is also reported that besides providing medical services to the flood affected areas, on August 23, pregnant Sumi Begum was rescued from Phulgazi police station in Feni in an unconscious state and sent to Comilla CMH by an army helicopter. There she gave birth to a son.

Apart from this, an amount equivalent to one day's salary of all the members of the armed forces is being deposited in the relief fund of the Chief Adviser with the help of the flood victims, and the emergency relief collection program is being conducted under the own management of the members of the armed forces.

According to ISPR, the Chiefs of Army and Air Force and the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Department of Armed Forces inspected the flood-hit areas on August 23. At that time, they also gave necessary instructions to the members of the armed forces engaged in the rescue work.
