Attempt to bring an air ambulance, to the country where Khaleda Zia may be taken

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various complex diseases including liver cirrhosis, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and kidney for a long time. BNP is trying to bring an air ambulance from Qatar to send him abroad for better treatment. He has already started the process. However, he is still not physically fit for a long flight. If the medical board approves, he will go abroad for treatment. He will undergo complex treatments including liver transplant at the Multiple Disease Center there.

Several members of the medical board formed for the treatment of Khaleda Zia confirmed this information on Friday (September 6).

Medical board member Dr. Al-Mamun said, 'We are trying. He is not physically fit to fly yet. It will take some more time. Suppose in this situation if he is taken on the plane, who will take the responsibility if there is a risk in the plane. Air Ambulance and Airplane say, you have to get up there; What is the alternative if it is the result of pressure after rising or if there are other complications in the middle? He is not being taken to any country in the Asian continent. So naturally you have to be on the plane for a long time. We are thinking about these issues. An air ambulance will be brought for him from outside the country.'

This doctor said, 'Our main objective is to transplant Khaleda Zia's liver. But before that his whole body should be checked up and other complications should be minimized. Liver transplant cannot be decided at first. Therefore measures will be taken according to the physical condition.'

When asked how the BNP Chairperson is doing now, he said, β€œHe is better than before.” Every day, doctors are regularly visiting home for follow-up. Leaders of various parties including BNP are coming. He is exchanging skills with everyone. Spending time with family members. He is sleeping and eating normally. Important parameters of health are at right levels. However, due to age, some complications sometimes occur.'

BNP chairperson's personal physician and coordinator of the medical board. AZM Zahid Hossain said, 'We are continuing discussions with some hospitals in the United States and the United Kingdom. Delivery to the UK takes 8 to 13 hours. 18 to 21 hours of flying hours are required in the United States. So his physical fitness is very important for this journey. So it will take some time. He will have to stay abroad for a long time to undergo some complex treatment.

Khaleda Zia is undergoing treatment under the supervision of a medical board headed by cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder of Evercare Hospital in the capital. Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare's coronary care unit when she fell ill last June. Later a pacemaker was implanted in his heart.

Before this, in October last year, three doctors from the world-famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States came to Dhaka to treat his liver cirrhosis disease. BNP chairperson returned to Gulshan's Basa Firoza from Evercare Hospital on July 2 after treatment.

Finally, on July 8, he was admitted to the hospital due to a sudden drop in blood pressure and hemoglobin. Since then he was under treatment in the hospital. Khaleda Zia had to be admitted to Evercare Hospital at various times after her conditional release by the government's executive order four years ago. In the last six years, she had to be admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Evercare Hospital for more than one and a half years. In the last three years, the family members sought permission to take Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment, but the Sheikh Hasina government refused it. Khaleda Zia's sentence was waived by the government the day after the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5.

Meanwhile, Sharmila Rahman Sinthi, wife of Khaleda Zia's younger son late Arafat Rahman Koko, arrived in Dhaka from UK. He reached the BNP Chairperson's residence in Gulshan on Thursday afternoon. BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed this information. Earlier, Sharmila Rahman Sinthi last came to Dhaka on January 28 this year. At that time he was at the bedside of his sick mother-in-law.
