Narayan Chandra also said, "According to the Live Stock Resources in Bangladesh-1995 research booklet of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, 120 grams of meat per person is needed per day. To meet this demand for meat, the Department of Livestock has set a total meat production target of 71 lakh 35 thousand metric tons in the fiscal year 2016-17, against which the total meat production has been 71 lakh 54 thousand tons.
