BNP will support the flood victims by limiting the event of the foundation anniversary

Due to severe floods in the eastern part of the country, BNP will hold the party's founding anniversary ceremony on September 1 in a limited form. Relief assistance will be provided to the flood victims as per the scheme. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the party announced this in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

He said, concern has been expressed over the severe floods in the country recently. This flood caused suffering due to the opening of dams in India. We are helping the flood victims as much as we can. A central relief cell has also been set up. Various items including rice, dal, oil, medicines, clothes, dry food are being distributed. Already one crore taka has been given to our activists. They are helping by buying relief with them.

Fakhrul said, BNP will not organize colorful programs on the occasion of the anniversary celebration. Rather limited schedule will be observed. On September 1, wreaths will be laid at the shrine of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, in Sherebangla Nagar. The party flag will be at half mast in the party office. Besides, a doa and milad mahfil will be organized. Where people and students of the country will pray for the victims of the movement. We will pray for our Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman to return to the country soon.

Referring to the cases pouring in all over the country, he said, I will tell the law and order forces – you should investigate first. In this regard, I will also call on the party leaders and workers not to file any case that does not have substance. We are going through a transitional period. This interim government should cooperate and bring back a stable environment. Because one of the goals of the interim government is to create an environment for elections. If not, it won't happen. It should be remembered that in a democratic country there is no change without elected representatives. We want to give reasonable time to this government.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the interim government should have a quick dialogue with the political parties. Regarding the withdrawal of the ban on Jamaat-Shibir, he said, “We are not in favor of banning any political party.” It is their right to do politics for the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

This decision was taken at the party's National Standing Committee meeting last Tuesday night. A press conference was held at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan in the capital to announce this decision. BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan was present at the time.
