The extension puts Aiyuk in the top-five of highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, and will keep him in San Francisco for the prime of his career.

While Aiyuk requested a trade last month, and there were tons of rumors surrounding potential deals to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Washington Commanders, in the end, Aiyuk will remain with the team that drafted him four years ago. It was clearly what he wanted all along.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, Aiyuk had larger contract offers on the table from both the Browns and Patriots. However, he wanted to remain with the 49ers, and, as Schultz put it, “continue to build his legacy with the team that drafted him.”
