Mashiul Haque Mitu (62), correspondent of Kalia upazila of Narail of Dainik Samakal newspaper, passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
He breathed his last at his home in Kalabaria village of Kalia upazila on Wednesday (May 8) around 9:30 pm.
According to family sources, Mitu was physically ill for several years. He has a wife and two sons. Kalia Press Club, Lohagarh ists Union, Narail District Press Club President Advocate Azizul Islam and members of the local journalists have mourned his death.
ist Mitu had been performing his duties as Kalia representative with honesty and courage since the inception of Dainik Samakal. He was also serving as the President of Kalia Press Club since its inception in 1992.
On October 7, 2011, he and his wife Reena Begum were shot and bombed by terrorists at their home for publishing news against local terrorists. Mitu's right thumb was blown off in the bomb attack. After that the rest of the fingers of the right hand also became useless. Since then he and his wife could not fully recover.
