Joint forces recovered a locker and a bundle of black paper after searching a pond in Rangpur metropolis.
They were recovered after searching the pond behind a hostel in the city's Collegepara on Thursday (05 September) night.
According to the police, a night watchman named Atiqur Rahman found an abandoned red briefcase near Nazrul Pathagar in Babukha area on Wednesday (04 September). When he took it home and opened it, he found a locker inside. Later, he gave the locker to the president of the library, Rashidus Sultan Bablu and his friend Milan, to hand over the locker to the police. But they broke it themselves instead of giving it to the police. Then they threw the locker in the pond to cover up the incident.
Meanwhile, after getting to know the matter through the locals, the joint forces raided there. Bablu and Atiq were detained for preliminary interrogation. The locker was recovered from the pond with the help of the fire service diving team.
Locals claim that the paper in the locker was written to contain 73 thousand dollars. However, no dollars were immediately recovered from the pond.
Rashidus Sultan Bablu, president of Nazrul Library, claimed that there was a paper in that locker and 18 bundles of black paper. On the advice of my friend Milan, we throw the locker in the pond to avoid police trouble.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kotyali Police Station of Metropolitan Police Khaled Ahmed, who was present at the scene during the operation, said that a locker and a bundle of black paper were recovered from the pond with the help of the diving team of the fire service. Action will be taken after reviewing the investigation.
Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) of Kotyali Police Station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Shah Alam said, in the operation, torn bags, boxes and some papers were recovered from the pond. The joint forces released the two people arrested in the incident after initial interrogation.
