BUET should have both student politics and learning environment: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League. Hasan Mahmud said, just as there should be student politics in BUET, the education environment should also be maintained.

He said this in the chief guest speech at the Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Committee organized by the Prime Minister to distribute Eid gifts at TSC premises of Dhaka University on Tuesday (April 9) afternoon.

Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain presided over the program as general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.

With all the achievements of Bangladesh, student politics and Chhatra League are mentioned – Joint General Secretary of Awami League. Hasan said, Chhatra League has played a role in our freedom struggle, independence war, in the post-independence period and in the goal of liberating democracy when Ershad and Zia chained our democracy and imprisoned it.

The foreign minister said that student politics has contributed to BUET, from that student politics many elite politicians have been born – those who have led the country and are giving. But I am surprised that student politics was stopped due to a tragic incident and there was also a movement to stop student politics. It is by no means democratic and as a stubborn decision the court struck down the order of the university and opened the door to student politics.

He said to the Chhatra League, I will tell the Chhatra League that there should be a systematic student politics, that the politics of violence and hatred should not enter. All educational institutions need to have systematic student politics, through which future leaders are created.

At that time, Hashan said with an example of his life, I have been a BCL worker since I was 15 years old, and became the general secretary of the BCL college branch at the age of 16.

Minister Hasan said that many politicians have forgotten that politics is a vow to serve the country and people and change the society. In fact, politics should not be anyone's profession. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we want to build a humanitarian and social welfare state with material development. It is for that purpose that Bangabandhukanya launched many welfare allowances. By taking that vow today, Chhatra League has taken the initiative to distribute Eid materials among the needy people. Congratulations to them. At the end of the meeting, the minister distributed gifts among the people who came to collect the materials.
