Interim government chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus urged the government of Pakistan to revive SAARC to enhance regional cooperation in the South Asian region.
On Tuesday (August 27), Pakistan's High Commissioner in Dhaka, Syed Ahmad Maruf, paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna. Meanwhile, the Chief Adviser made this call to the Government of Pakistan.
In terms of increasing regional cooperation, SAARC can be a model like the European Union. Yunus said, we have to work together for mutual benefit.
In the meeting, the Pakistan High Commissioner emphasized the need to revive trade and economic relations and people-to-people contacts between the two countries. He highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations as well as enhancing cooperation on multilateral platforms and expressed interest in working together.
The High Commissioner said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif and the people of the country are deeply concerned about the recent terrible floods in Bangladesh. He mentioned that Pakistan is ready to help Bangladesh. Ahmad Maruf called for ease of Bangladesh visa process for Pakistani citizens and direct flights between the two countries.
He highlighted the need to further strengthen the existing bilateral partnership between the two countries. The Ambassador congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team on their first Test win against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
