Chaksu and Hall elected representatives of the parliament took oath


Chittagong University Central Student Council (CHAKSU), elected representatives of Hall and Hostel Council are taking oath.

The oath-taking was held on Thursday (October 23) at noon in the Faculty of Sociology auditorium of the university.

Chaksu President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yahya Akhtar administered the oath to the Chaksu delegates. And nine students, four student halls and one hostel principal administered the oath to their respective hall and hostel parliament representatives.

However, blind student Aakash Das, executive member of the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed 'Sampriti Shirdi Jot', who was accused of making 'controversial' comments about girls, was not present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Meanwhile, before the oath-taking ceremony, a group of students protested against Chaksu Director Professor Mohammad Zahedur Rahman Chowdhury for making objectionable remarks. Later, when VP Ibrahim Roni and camp president Mohammad Ali requested them to remain calm, they sat down and the oath-taking ceremony began.

The oath-taking ceremony begins with readings from the Holy Quran, Gita, Bible and Tripitaka. After that, a minute of silence was observed in the memory of Shahid Hriday Chandra Tarua and Shahid Farhad Hossain, students of History Department of Chittagong University in July uprising.

On October 15, the seventh Chaksu, hall and hostel parliamentary elections were held after 36 years. In this, Ibrahim Hossain Roni of Student Alliance of Chhatra Shibir was elected as Vice-President (VP) and Saeed Bin Habib of the same panel as General Secretary (GS). Ayubur Rahman Taufiq of Chhatra Dal was elected as Joint General Secretary (AGS).

Candidates from the Chhatra Shibir panel were elected to 24 of the 26 posts in the Central Parliament.

In the swearing-in ceremony, the chief election commissioner of Chaksu, hall and hostel parliament election. Monir Uddin said, “University students have got a representative student council. Through this student council, they will present their demands. And today we completed our work by swearing in the Election Commission; we survived.”

Chaksu's newly elected Vice-President (VP) Ibrahim Hossain Roni said, “The journalists are repeatedly asking me, will you show any surprise as the VP? I have said with full confidence, I want to claim our rights.”

He said, “Chaksu, hall or hostel parliament elections were not held to create any surprises. For the last 35 years, students have presented their demands, but they have not been implemented. Now we will claim our rights.”

Chaksu President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yahya Akhtar said, “Chaksu election was one of the priority demands among the various demands of the students. That demand has now been fulfilled.”

Chaksu's former Vice President (VP) Jasim Uddin Sarkar, Mazharul Hok Chowdhury, SM Fazlul Haque, Shamsuzzaman Hira and GS Mahmudur Rahman Manna were present at the oath taking ceremony.
