In a friendly volleyball competition organized by Bangladesh Association of America (BAI) yesterday, Sunday 8th October, at Van Dyke Park in Fairfax, the cultural institution 'Ektara' defeated the Warriors and won the championship.
Seven Bangladeshi organizations from the greater Washington area participated in the competition. They are – (1) Ektara, (2) Bai, (3) X Cadet, (4) Buet, (5) Duafi, (6) Rajshahi University Alumni and (7) Warrier. Warrior's group is a group of young people who came to America as refugees from different countries, initiated by a Bangladeshi.
Two former presidents of BAI, Dr. Osman Farooq and Mr. Waheed Hossaini, distributed the prizes at the end of this friendly volleyball game. Below are two pictures taken at the playground. বাংলাদেশ এসোসিয়েশন অব আমেরিকা (বাই) এর উদ্যোগে অনুষ্ঠিত গতকাল, রবিবার ৮ই অক্টোবার, ফেয়ার ফ্যক্সের ভ্যান ডাইক পার্কে এক প্রীতি ভলিবল প্রতিযোগিতায় সাংস্কৃতিক প্রতিষ্ঠান ‘একতারা’, ওয়ারিয়ারদের পরাজিত করে, চ্যাম্পিয়ানশীপ অর্জন করে। বৃহত্তর ওয়াশিংটন এলাকার সাতটি বাংলাদেশী প্রতিষ্ঠান এই প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশ নেয়। এরা হোল – (১) একতারা, (২) বাই, (৩) এক্স ক্যাডেট, (৪) বুয়েট, (৫) ডুয়াফি, (৬) রাজশাহী বিশ্ব বিদ্যালয় এলুমনাই এবং (৭) ওয়ারিয়ার। ওয়ারিয়ার দলটি এক বাংলাদেশীর উদ্যোগে, বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে উদ্বাবাস্তু (refugee) হিসাবে আমেরিকায় আগত যুবকদের নিয়ে গঠিত দল।
এই প্রীতি ভলিবল খেলায় বাই-এর দুই প্রাক্তন সভাপতি, ডক্টর ওসমান ফারুক ও জনাব ওয়াহেদ হোসেনী, খেলা শেষে পুরস্কার বিতরণ করেন। খেলার মাঠে তোলা দুটি ছবি নিচে দেওয়া হোল।
