Chibbi's office assistant on charges of embezzling money

Chittagong University (Chibi) office assistant Mehdi Hasan has been temporarily suspended from the job for allegedly embezzling Tk 1 lakh.

On Sunday (June 23), the acting registrar of the university said. Saiful Islam confirmed the matter. An inquiry committee has been formed to convene Mohammad Sohaib, a professor of development studies, in the incident.

The victim is a former student of the Department of Psychology at the University of Muhammad Yahya.

In a written complaint along with the university registrar, he said that the accused Mehdi Hassan took Tk 1 lakh from him on August 27, 2012, showing the temptation to be employed as a section officer. Later, he demanded Tk 1 lakh. No appointment has been completed after paying a total of Tk 1 lakh. Later, he was assured of returning the money but he complained that he had not yet received Tk 1 lakh back.

Asked about this, the accused Mehdi Hassan said, “I have worked in the personal direction of someone. The way the Vice -Chancellor Madam (former Vice -Chancellor Shirin Akhtar) instructed PS, I only followed it. Multiple PS has changed, I have always worked under them.”

According to university administration sources, allegations against Mehdi Hasan were already heard orally. For a long time, he has been impacting the administrative activities and recruitment process by utilizing the closeness of the powerful people.

Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam said, “The victim's written complaint has been reviewed and a temporary dismissal has been decided. In addition, a one -member inquiry committee has been formed on the matter.
