A 15-month-old child named Bhanu Rani Roy drowned in a pond in Dinajpur's Birganj. The incident took place in Debarupara village of Shatagram Union of the upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased child is Bhanu Rani Roy, the infant daughter of Dharma Narayan Roy of Jharbari Devdarupara area of Shatagram Union of the upazila.
According to local sources, Bhanu Rani Roy went missing around 1:30 am on Saturday. Locals and family members recovered the body of the child drowning in the pond adjacent to the homestead around 9:30.
Confirming the truth of the child's death, Omar Ali, a UP member of Ward No. 7 of Shatagram UP, said that the father Dharma Narayan was sleeping in Devarupara village and the mother Anjili Rani was busy with cooking, so the baby girl drowned in the water of the pond due to carelessness.
The death of the child has cast a shadow of grief across the family and the village. After receiving the news, Birganj police station SI Aktarulzzaman went to the spot and made a report on the condition of the child's body. The body was handed over as there was no complaint from the family members.
Officer-in-charge of Birganj police station Mojibur Rahman said that he received the news of the child's death. Police have been sent to the spot. A UD case has been filed at the police station in this regard.
