A clash between two groups of Chhatra League took place in Rajshahi University (Rabi). There have also been several cocktail explosions. The incident took place after 11pm on Saturday (May 11) in the university students' residential area.
According to hall sources, at around 11:30 pm on Saturday night, while sitting in the guest room of Suhrawardy Hall, Atiqur Rahman, the vice-president of Suhrawardy Hall, a follower of Branch Chhatra League president Mostafizur Rahman Babu, had a conversation with the president of the hall, Niaz Morshed. With this, the two sides started fighting. At one point, Atiqur Rahman's room was vandalized. Later, some staff of Niaz Morshed entered the hall from outside the campus.
Professor Dr. Proctor of the University in this regard. Asabul Haque said, we are trying to calm the situation. We are entering the hall with the help of the police. I am trying to get the outsiders out of the hall and hand them over to the police. We will take a decision on the overall issue after calming down the situation.
In this regard, the vice-chancellor of the university, Dr. Humayun Kabir said, we got to know about this a while back. Our proctorial body is working. We are monitoring the incident. When the situation calms down, I can provide details.
After this incident, more than three hundred leaders and activists of Rabi branch president-general secretary of Chhatra League took position in front of Mother Bakhsh Hall. A chase ensued between the two groups and cocktail explosions ensued. During this time, the exercise of native weapons was also seen.
Rajshahi University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Md. Sultan-ul-Islam and Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof. Humayun Kabir's mother is seen staying at Bakhsh Hall.
