The High Court has issued a ruling to the concerned parties seeking to know why instructions will not be given to conduct an impartial investigation of the complaints related to electricity bill collection system review and audit, transparency, refund of excess charges.
Tuesday (June 11) Justice Md. The High Court bench consisting of Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Masud Hossain Dolan gave the order. Lawyers Saifullah Mamun, Jamiul Haque Faisal and Abdullah Al Hadi appeared for the writ in the court.
Earlier on June 6, a writ was filed seeking urgent review and audit of the electricity bill system, transparency, refund of excess charges, customer communication and policy reforms.
The authorities of Energy and Power Secretary, Power Grid Company Bangladesh Chairman, Energy Regulatory Commission, Power Development Board, Rural Electrification Board, DESCO, Westzone Power Distribution Company, Northern Electricity Supply Company and DPDC have been made respondents in the writ.
The writ states that prepaid electricity meters have been introduced in Bangladesh. It is announced that by 2025 all electricity users will be covered. However, consumers are being harassed in various ways including extra charges, hidden charges, lack of transparency.
