The Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs have made a trade.
On Tuesday, ahead of the roster cut deadline, the Cowboys agreed to send tight end Peyton Hendershot to the Chiefs for a late-round conditional pick. The Cowboys were reportedly planning on cutting Hendershot, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, but are instead sending him to Kansas City for a draft choice. According to Dianna Russini, it’s a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick going to the Cowboys.

Hendershot is entering his third year in the NFL. The 25-year-old has appeared in 25 games over the last two seasons with the Cowboys, catching 15 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He also has one rushing touchdown.
In addition to his work on offense, Hendershot has tallied 400 snaps on special teams, accumulating a total of 10 tackles.
Hendershot is now joining a tight end room led by nine-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro Travis Kelce. The 34-year-old is entering his 12th season — all with the Chiefs — but continues to play at a high level.
Behind Kelce is Noah Gray, who’s spent three seasons in the NFL, all with Kansas City. The former fifth-round pick in 2021 has 63 receptions for 640 yards and four touchdowns in his career.
The Chiefs have been active on the trading front on Tuesday. In addition to Hendershot, the Chiefs also acquired linebacker Cameron Thomas from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Chiefs will continue cutting down their roster ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. Hendershot will be a great addition to a team looking to win its third straight Super Bowl.
As for the Cowboys, they’re rolling with a tight end room that’s led by Jake Ferguson. Behind him is Luke Schoonmaker and a handful of players competing for what will likely be the final roster spot at the tight end position.
Ferguson had a breakout season in 2023, catching 71 passes for 761 yards and five touchdowns en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance. Schoonmaker, a second-round pick in 2023, had eight catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns a year ago. The Cowboys are likely hoping for a year two jump for Schoonmaker this season.
