President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Ashraf Ahmed has urged Russian entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh's energy and power sector. He made this call at the exchange meeting on 'Bangladesh-Russia trade and economic cooperation development' organized by DCCI on Tuesday (May 28).
The DCCI president said, the size of our economy has increased almost four times in the last 15 years. Along with this, in order to continue industrialization and economic activities in the implementation of LDC transition of Bangladesh, especially in order to ensure uninterrupted energy supply in the industrial sector, our energy and power sector is very promising for the investment of Russian entrepreneurs. In addition, Russia can increase investment in Bangladesh's agricultural modernization, information technology, education and service sectors.
He said, currently the bilateral trade amount is 965.51 million US dollars, while the amount of import and export of Bangladesh is 505.22 and 460.39 million US dollars respectively. Russian entrepreneurs have already invested 17.26 million US dollars in various industries in Bangladesh. Urge Russia to import more Bangladeshi products such as garments, medicines, jute and jute products, light-engineering, plastic products, footwear, ceramics and IT and ITS products.
Trade Commissioner of Russia appointed in India. Alexander Rairas said that the bilateral commercial relations between the two countries are long-standing and the trade agreement between the two countries was signed in 1972. Russia has already come forward to set up Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. And will continue to cooperate in Bangladesh's energy security and natural gas exploration in the future.
He said that in 2023, Russia has exported about 2.67 million tons of wheat to Bangladesh. There are many opportunities for Russia's single and joint investment in the IT, banking, chemical and mechanical engineering sectors of Bangladesh. Bangladesh's skilled workforce in the shipbuilding industry has been engaged in this industry in Russia since 2023.
Ekaterina Siminova, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh, said that Russia has the second largest commercial relationship with Bangladesh among South Asian countries, and to strengthen bilateral commercial relations, emphasis should be placed on expanding the relationship between private sector representatives of the two countries.
