Two more people died after being seriously injured in the collision between truck-private car and auto-rickshaw in Jhalkathi. They died at Barisal Sher-i-Bangla Medical College Hospital. As a result, the death toll in the incident has increased to 14. Police have arrested the driver of the killer truck. Jhalkathi Superintendent of Police Mohammad Afruzul Haque Tutul confirmed this.
Meanwhile, investigating the cause of the accident, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Jhalkathi. Deputy Commissioner Tarah Gul Nijhum said that a 4-member investigation committee has been formed headed by Ruhul Amin.
Earlier, on Wednesday (April 17) around 2 pm, the accident took place in Gabkhan Setu area of Sadar Upazila. Among the dead are 7 men, 4 women, and 3 children.
Locals said that the truck carrying seven rings cement left from Khulna lost control and hit the private car. The private car fell on the three autorickshaws that were standing next to it. Seven people were killed on the spot. 5 died after being taken to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital. The bodies of the deceased are in the hospital morgue. The names of the injured were not immediately known. The seriously injured were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Two others died while undergoing treatment there.
According to witnesses and the police, there were some cars waiting to pay money at the toll plaza, including easy bikes, private cars and motorcycles. At that time, the cement truck hit all the vehicles in front and broke the barrier of the toll plaza and went to the side of the road. Incidents of casualties and injuries occurred. Jhalkathi District Commissioner Farah Gul Nijhum visited the spot.
Shafiqul Islam, Special Officer of Jhalkathi Fire Service, said that the truck loaded with cement has been seized in this incident. Rescue operation of the vehicles involved in the accident is going on.
