Death toll rises to 24 in India's Tripura floods

The flood situation has worsened in the Indian state of Tripura due to continuous rains for four days. So far 24 people have died in the state due to landslides and floods.

Hindustan Times reported this information about the concerned parties. According to reports, about 1.7 million people have been affected by the flood. Many people are still homeless. Many have disappeared.

Local authorities said that the water level of some rivers has started to decrease gradually. Except Gomti in Sonamura of Sipahijla district, the water of all the rivers is flowing below the flood limit. Initial estimates say that around 5000 crores of damage has been caused due to floods in Tripura. However, according to sources, the situation is gradually improving in the last few hours.

According to the report, 288.8 millimeters of rain fell in 8 flood-hit districts of Tripura on August 19 alone. which is considered to be the maximum rainfall. A package of Rs 40 crore has already been given to Tripura on behalf of the Center for relief. Meanwhile, 11 teams of NDRF have reached Tripura to participate in rescue operations. Four helicopters of the Air Force have descended for relief work.

Meanwhile, it is still raining in various parts of Tripura. More rain is forecast. Meteorological Department says, heavy rain is likely to continue for a few more days. Heavy rainfall warning has been issued till August 25.

Several districts of Tripura have been affected due to incessant rains, Hindustan Times wrote. Of which South Tripura, Gomti and Khowai districts are the worst affected. The rescue team is carrying out the rescue operation.

An official of the Meteorological Department said that the warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been maintained. Red alert has been issued in eight districts.
