Chittagong District Awami League General Secretary Sheikh Ataur Rahman lost in the upazila. He elected Ghora Pratik to the post of chairman in the Mirsarai Upazila Parishad elections. His closest rival was Chittagong North District Awami League Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Enayet Hossain Nayan.
The two are known as gurushishis in the political field. Sheikh Ataur Rahman was defeated by Enayet Hossain Nayan by a margin of about 12,310 votes.
Elections were held in 113 centers in Mirsrai on Wednesday from 8 am to 4 pm. Total votes cast are 63266.
Mirsrai Upazila consists of 16 Unions and 2 Municipalities. 3 lakh 72 thousand 57 voters in 838 polling booths in 113 centers. There are 1 lakh 92 thousand 720 male voters, 1 lakh 79 thousand 535 female voters and 2 transgender voters. 17 percent of the total votes were cast.
