Dog Visibly Upset As Owner Puts On Shoes, but Doesn’t Say the Magic Word

Dogs want nothing more than to be with their humans every waking second of every day, and when that doesn’t happen, they’ll protest in different ways. Some will bark as you walk out the door or cause destruction in the house.

This poochon, a cross between a bichon frise and a toy or miniature poodle, didn’t have much to say. Her eyes told these owners everything they needed to know about how this dog was feeling.

In the May 28 TikTok video posted by user @peach.poochon, one of the dog’s owners was putting on his shoes. Next to him on the couch was Peach, eyeing him down. She couldn’t believe he was getting ready to go out without saying the magic words and inviting her to go on a walk.

The caption reads: “You dare to leave this home without moi?”

Her glare was powerful. It was felt through the screen. And although she didn’t move in this clip, Peach will sometimes continue staring as her owners leave the home.

“She’ll often go and sit in the window and watch us leave with the same expression,” the owner shared with Newsweek via TikTok.

While dogs getting upset over their owners leaving is normal, pet parents should be aware of more extreme reactions, like excessive barking or whining, chewing on items, breaking toilet training, shaking, panting, overenthusiastic welcomes, and following you around, as these could be signs of separation anxiety.

The Humane Society of the United States recommends doing the following to help treat your dog’s separation anxiety:

  • Tire your dog out with mental and physical exercises, such as long walks or treat puzzles.
  • Establish a routine of leaving and arriving at the same time. Leave home as chill as possible” to avoid reinforcing your pet’s anxiety with your own.
  • Turn on soothing music.
  • Create a safe space. Instead of a crate, make a safe room with windows, toys and objects with your scent, like unwashed laundry.
  • Positive reinforcement training
  • Speak with a veterinarian about anti-anxiety medication if the reactions are severe

‘The Audacity’

This dog said plenty to her owners even without vocalization, and every last bit of her concerns were ignored as he still never said the magic words. The TikTok clip reached over 1.1 million views, 29,900 likes, and 321 comments as of Thursday.

The official TikTok account for Google commented: “No translation needed…that face says it all.”

One user commented: “Literally is saying, ‘the audacity,'” while another added: “She be like, ‘You forgetting something?'”

Plenty of TikTokers, unfortunately, know this feeling all too well. “The worst! It’s the moments where you don’t dare make eye contact with them either.”
