Dog Who Loves People Watching From the Fire Escape Most New York Thing Ever

New York City apartments don’t typically have a jaw-dropping view or balcony unless you’re dishing out the big bucks, but one lucky owner has created her own balcony that her dog obsesses over.

The daily routine for Alaina Randazzo and her 3-year-old dog, Pimento, consists of breakfast, a walk, a trip to the park and then returning home to Pimento’s favorite spot: the fire escape balcony.

Here he gets to sit, soak up the air from six stories up and people watch while she reads or writes before work. Then come nighttime, they’re out on the balcony together again.

New Yorkers often use the fire escapes to get a sliver of balcony living and Pimento can’t get enough of his. He is the definition of an NYC dog. He could people watch from his corner of the city for hours, which Randazzo shows in an August 25 TikTok video posted to her account, @alainarandazzox.

In the clip, Randazzo is already outside on the fire escape. She calls to Pimento who knows exactly what is coming as he runs over with his tail wagging. He hops onto the windowsill and then to his doggy bed which is placed in prime position to watch the city buzzing. He pays no attention to Randazzo and instead sticks his head through the bars to get a closer look at the world below him.

“I guess it’s his version of TV!” she told Newsweek.

The weather is a nonfactor for Pimento. They moved into this apartment in January and by February they were already enjoying fire escape hangouts.

It has become a tradition that Pimento now expects daily. He’ll be “nonstop whining” at the window until Randazzo opens it and goes outside with him.

“If I go out there myself, he will throw a temper tantrum,” she said.

Randazzo links his infatuation with the fire escape to his curious personality. He’s always loved looking out the window or over a fence in their previous apartment. Even on trips to her hometown in Missouri, his favorite spot is on the deck, overlooking the land.

But he especially loves it when he can watch the world go by at an elevated height, she said. He likes the vantage view, making the fire escape perfect. However, Randazzo hopes one day she can give him more than the tiny balcony.

TikTokers couldn’t get enough of this dog’s lavish lifestyle, however, some expressed concern about her and the dog on the fire escape. Randazzo confirmed that she is always outside with him, plus it’s not illegal to be on the fire escapes.

New York real estate website Brick Underground reported people may sit or stand on the fire escape, however, it should be clear of obstructions at all times.

“Such good enrichment! You can tell he’s even being careful. She’s guarding the stairs and providing a safe spot,” commented a viewer.

Another added: “OMG if I saw that sweet little pittie face squished in between those I would squeal with joy from the sidewalk and have to go give him pets.”
