Doug Emhoff Secures ‘Wife Guy’ Status With Viral Speech

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff has secured his “wife guy” status on social media after making a moving speech about Vice President Kamala Harris at the second night of the Democratic National Convention.

After discussing his blended family and the story of how he met Harris, the first Second Gentleman of the U.S. was lauded by users on X, formerly known as Twitter, as the epitome of a supportive spouse.

One user, Joshua Rush, wrote, “We are not talking enough about how important it is that doug emhoff is on the biggest stage in america right now as a wife guy!!”

He continued, “Young men are getting radicalized through misogyny every day and here is doug, unapologetically loving and uplifting his wife.”

Rush’ post, one of many in the viral trend calling Emhoff a “wife guy,” gained 127,600 views and more than 8,000 likes.

Another user, Ashley Reese, posted, “Doug Emhoff securing the wife guy vote at the DNC,” which received 10,000 views.

ist Danielle Campoamor, who previously referred to Emhoff as the “ultimate golden retriever husband,” called the second day of the DNC “Wife Guy night.”

Emhoff first secured the nickname “wife guy” in 2020, after he referred to himself as such in a post on X in response to a post by politician and businessman Andrew Yang.

Emhoff has been a long-time vocal supporter of his wife and has traveled with her on the campaign trail in the race for the presidency.

During his speech, Emhoff later encouraged the audience to take note of Harris’ achievements as Vice President and described her impact on his family.

When spotting his mother, Emhoff said, “My mother is the only person in the world who thinks Kamala is the lucky one for marrying me.”

He described a rambling voicemail he left Harris prior to their first date, a blind date set up in 2013 by a former client, and how he “fell in love fast,” noting that he learned what drives her.

Emhoff described her as a “joyful warrior,” and said that she finds joy in pursuing justice and stands up to bullies.

Since her marriage to Emhoff, Harris became stepmother to his two children from a previous marriage to Kersin Emhoff, Cole, and Ella Emhoff, who later gave her the nickname Momala.

Emhoff said, “America, in this election, you have to decide who to trust with your family’s future. I trusted Kamala with our family’s future. It was the best decision I ever made.”
